Hi, my name is Wendy Bloy and I live in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. I began dyeing both wool and cotton more than 14 years ago but it didn't take long for me to find that I loved dyeing wool yarn and roving for my knitting and spinning.
My love for dyeing soon developed into a small, home-based online business. I spin for my own pleasure as I have found local mills who will supply me with natural spun yarn and combed fleece for dyeing. My dye lots are intentionally small - no more than 6 x 100g hanks at a time but often only 2-3. I love the idea that you will knit, crochet or weave an item that uses one of a kind yarn so I very rarely dye duplicates.
My daughter sometimes joins me on dyeing days when she is home from university and she has different ideas for colour combinations plus she enjoys solar dyeing using our abundant sun. The yarn she dyes is always unrepeatable because of her techniques but that makes them even more special!
I use commercial acid dyes endeavouring to be as environmentally careful as I can when disposing of the leftover water after each dyeing session. With our usual dry conditions I also ensure that my water is used carefully to limit wastage. My home is both smoke and pet hair free.
I hope you enjoy the results of my dyeing days as much as I do.
